The American Public Is Paying Attention, and WE Don’t Like What We See

The recent “Tesla commercial” aired at the White House and the dismissive treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit are just the latest examples of a troubling alliance forming at the highest levels of influence. 

Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and the Heritage Foundation appear to be pushing an agenda that is not only disconnected from the needs of everyday Americans, but actively harmful to them.

This trio’s growing influence signals a dangerous shift.

Elon Musk’s public flirtations with authoritarian leaders, including disturbing signals of alignment with Vladimir Putin, should raise red flags for anyone concerned with democracy and global stability.

 Donald Trump’s ongoing rhetoric and behavior continue to erode democratic norms, while the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 outlines a sweeping plan to reshape the federal government in ways that concentrate power to the top 1% and undermine individual freedoms of ALL Americans.

This is not governance. It’s theater, performed at the expense of national unity and international credibility.

Their actions are already having real-world consequences. 

Markets are wobbling under the weight of political instability and economic uncertainty.

Foreign allies are distancing themselves as they question the reliability of American leadership.

 At home, Americans are feeling the effects of a weakened economy and growing social division. People in government jobs they passionately worked their entire careers to get, are getting laid off.

But perhaps most telling is the public response. Boycotts are beginning to sting. Keep it up!!

Consumers are voting with their wallets. 

More people are speaking out, organizing, and holding powerful figures accountable. Americans Of all political persuasion, with the exception of extreme MAGA Republicans, are watching from all angles and they are connecting the dots.

This may not unravel overnight, but the trajectory is clear. 

The American people are waking up to the reality that these so called leaders are not acting in our best interest. And when the people recognize that, change becomes inevitable.

This moment isn’t just a political shift, it’s a reckoning. And primaries are coming up. Call your legislators, let them know how you feel. Hold them accountable.

Speaking at school board and city council meetings. I traveled to Austin to speak at the state board of Ed, I traveled to Philadelphia to protest Moms for Liberty.

I registered voters.

I worked as a precinct chair for the local dems. I dropped flyers, I knocked doors.

I talked to anyone who would listen about Project 2025, and the danger a Trump presidency would pose on ALL Americans.

I coordinated with other local groups to protest when a white supremacist/ Christian Nationalist organization forced the Botanic garden to hold their hateful convention there, despite pushback.

I have been interviewed by the media and newspapers, my face and name publicly shown to everyone in my vicinity. I managed 3 TikTok accounts, 3 instagrams and was admin for 50 Facebook groups across the country.

I was steeped in activism, action, and engagement. Developing relationships, growing my network, all with the goal to make life more safe, calm, and relaxed for others.

Motivating and inspiring others to get involved. Not just typing out their frustration on social media.

I am going to be 56 in April. My daughter is graduating in May, and she’s moving out of Texas.

I need to conserve my energy and time and protect my fragile nervous system and I need to rest.

I need to touch grass. I need to absorb the energy of the sun. I need to drink water. I need to write, create, and find joy. I need to learn how to talk about non political things.

I may get the itch again to throw myself back in the fray, but right now I am protecting my peace and my sanity.

I have taken on a volunteer shift at my kids’ high school’s food pantry. And that’s my current contribution. I can’t be everything to everyone, but I can ALWAYS lend a hand.

So if you’re reading this and are wondering why I am not out there, at every event, saying yes and raising my hand, I am protecting my peace.

I will most likely jump back in at some point. It’s my nature. I see so much injustice and I can’t sit idly by and just bitch about it, I have to fight.

But if I don’t take time to re-energize, I won’t be effective.

What’s happening in our land is horrific, please forgive me for looking away from it for a minute.

It doesn’t mean I don’t care, I do, especially for my beautiful trans and queer friends and all of the trans and queer kids, for women, for poor and hungry folx.

I am watching all 6 seasons of The Crown. I am playing Wordle. I am making candles. I am reading for enjoyment. I am going to estate sales. I am organizing and cleaning out.

I took my daughter to an appointment this morning to get her passport renewed.

The passport office is housed in the Southwest Fort Worth sub-courthouse. It’s the same place we go vote, pay our property taxes, register our vehicle, there’s a Justice of the peace, constable and a little tiny courtroom I have no idea what goes on in. I never see anyone in or around there.

The WIC office is also there. What is WIC? it stands for Women, Infants and Children.

In Texas, the WIC program is funded primarily by the federal government through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The USDA provides grants to each state, and in Texas, the program is managed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). They distribute the funds to local agencies that offer WIC services.

It provides supplemental nutrition, lactation consultants, and other health services to help moms with small children who financially qualify for WIC programs.

Financial requirements for WIC were shocking to me. Considering what rent runs here in Fort Worth ($1800-$2300/ month for a 2 bedroom apartment in a halfway decent area) There are probably a lot of people who qualify.

So as my daughter and I were leaving, we held the door for 3 moms, all who had multiple little kids/babies in strollers.

One of the kids was having an epic meltdown. I really felt for that mom.

It’s already gotta be horrible having to go to WIC, which was crowded with mamas & babies, but dragging a screaming toddler out has to be downright exasperating.

I got out to my truck, and Harper got in her Jeep and she drove off back to school. I sat there for a bit and looked at my phone.

I sat there in the parking lot in tears for a good while, thinking.

Staring out my windshield.

Watching moms with babies walking to the nearby bus stop, or to their car, doing the carseat rodeo (if you’ve ever put a fussy toddler in a carseat, you know about the carseat rodeo)

What will happen to those folks? Those mamas. Two babies and another on the way, which is stressful no matter your household situation, marital status, or age.

How can you work a full time job that pays well, pay for childcare so you can go to work, pay rent, keep the lights on and A/C on, pay for a car, gas, AND groceries. And what if one of them gets sick? Or you get sick? Or there’s another pandemic and daycare shuts down? Or your car breaks down?

You have to be completely devoid of empathy, or completely unaware of scenarios like I just described to think that WIC or SNAP or reduced or free lunch at school, or rental assistance, or some kind of basic needs assistance is a “waste of government funds”.

The women I saw today weren’t “lazy”. They weren’t “taking advantage” of or “freeloading” they were fucking surviving.

Now I don’t know if these programs are going to completely shut down or what, but I do know that there are food pantries and closets at public schools that need volunteers. Desperately.

Just a few hours a week. Show up & smile, be a kind face, be of service if you are able.

I signed up at my kids’ high school today, I start on Thursday from 2-4. There’s a room dedicated to distribute food and essentials. School spirit wear so kids whose parents can’t afford it can still wear spirit wear like the other kids.

I can sit here and feel sad and hopeless and disgusted that anyone would take away government funded programs, or I can supplement the needs of people in my immediate community by volunteering a couple hours a week.

I don’t have money to donate, but 2 hours of my time on a Thursday afternoon will help a whole lot. And I can give that.

If you are reading this and are struggling to make ends meet, know that you are not alone. The majority of us are struggling, and we are just one catastrophic event away from not being able to buy groceries.

½ your eggs and separate yolks into a bowl

I started changing my approach to food in November 2024, but refuse to eat stuff that isn’t delicious. I will eat whatever I want, just a few bites, but if I want to eat more than a few bites, I want it to be full of nutrition, and sans the crap that made me overeat.

Prioritization of protein, fiber, hydration, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Mixy mix gently so you don’t smoosh the avocado too much. Add extra lime juice on top and cover with plastic wrap touching surface of dip.

Eat as a dip with Fritos scoops

Donald Trump is a morally bankrupt human being, but I’ll give him this: he is a master pitchman and a genius at marketing.

He sold a narrative—a toxic concoction of lies, fear, and scapegoating—to mostly poor, ignorant, white racists and homophobes (his “marks”). He promised them that he would get rid of brown-skinned immigrants, blamed the country’s problems on liberals and the LGBTQ+ community, and painted trans women as a threat to girls and women’s sports. He said whatever he needed to, no matter how misogynistic, racist, or blatantly false, to inflame their anger and reinforce their hate.

With the help of his equally corrupt loyalists (because Trump has no real friends, only transactional relationships), he used every platform at his disposal to tell these marks that voting MAGA made them special.

He sold them on the idea that true patriots and conservative Christians like them would see their lives improve if only he and his allies regained power. He told them anyone who questioned his actions or held him accountable for his crimes was a traitor.

This manipulation culminated in the January 6th Capitol attack, where he incited his followers to act like rabid animals, hunting down elected officials, breaking windows, erecting gallows, and even defiling the Capitol with human waste—all because he lost an election.

And when those same people were arrested and thrown in jail, did he help them? Of course not. He used their plight to double down on his rhetoric, telling anyone who dared hold him accountable—Republicans included—that they were “RINOs” and traitors to his cause.

At massive rallies, he continued to sell his cheap merchandise and nonsense, feeding their racism and frustrations, giving them scapegoats to blame for their problems, and insisting only he could save them from the chaos he himself had created.

But here’s the truth that many of his followers—perhaps too late—will realize: it was never about them. It was never about their struggles, their health, their wealth, or their dreams. It was always about Trump’s insatiable hunger for power and money.

And in the final stretch, he brought in Elon Musk, the richest man in the world—a man driven by his own desire for power, adoration, and greed. Musk insulted the very people Trump had spent years manipulating, openly suggesting they were too stupid for high-paying engineering jobs. He made it clear that bringing in immigrants—those the marks had been conditioned to hate—was actually a better solution for him.

Trump was just a tool, albeit a highly effective one. While Trump worked the crowd and manipulated the masses, Musk stood by, or rather “ jumped around like a doofus” using him to buy influence with Trump’s already loyal crowd, and ultimately take the most powerful seat in the world for himself, and toss them all aside to run things to benefit himself and protect his own interests.

And in the end, Trump’s greatest trick wasn’t just selling trash—it was convincing millions of people to believe in a lie so deeply that they couldn’t see they were the ones being thrown away.

When we stop dividing ourselves “left versus right”and recognize that the struggle is vertical, they know we outnumber them.

There are striking parallels between V for Vendetta and The Hunger Games ( among others), and the capture and charges facing Luigi Mangione, in how they address the themes of resistance, class struggle, and the rich and powerful’s fear of collective awakening.

Catalyst for Resistance

V for Vendetta: V sparks a rebellion against a totalitarian regime by exposing its corruption and cruelty. V becomes a symbol of resistance.

The Hunger Games: Katniss Everdeen becomes the face of the rebellion against the Capitol, inspiring the oppressed districts to rise up.

Luigi Mangione: Mangione is persecuted so loudly not for his personal actions but for what he represents—the awakening of the people to the systemic class struggle.

Fear of an Idea or Movement

V for Vendetta: The government fears V not just as an individual but as a symbol of ideas that cannot be killed or controlled.

I am 55. If I had $40 million, I would live very comfortably for the rest of my life, even if I lived to 95. A million a year.

I would travel and give my kids a great life with no college debt, medical debt, or any debt at all for that matter.

I would eat high-quality, healthy foods and still be able to donate to causes I believe in.

If I needed new knees, hips, or anything else, I would get that taken care of, recover, and keep going!

I would see every country on this planet with my husband, and sometimes my kids, too.

We would always fly first class. I would need to add pages to my passport because it would be so full. I would try every delicacy and every massage modality.

I would go to a place where they stretch all of my muscles for me—like the ads I get on Instagram—or maybe just pay someone to do that 1-3 times a week. (Trey, too.)

I would wear really good quality, stylish but comfy clothes and shoes. Nothing flashy or pretentious, just good fitting, flattering, and comfy.

I would finally get that bunion surgery I’ve been putting off and pay for the best recovery services.

I would live on a sailboat or a yacht at least once, with Trey, of course. I would fly my kids out to wherever we are, and when they got bored, fly them back home.

I would learn as many languages as my brain would hold. I wouldn’t put off any medical need because I’d be able to afford it.

What else…

At my home(s), I would have the best cookware and the comfiest, most stylish furniture. (Again, nothing flashy.) A pool, a steam room, and a sex room with all the toys and apparatus. Oh, and all the best skincare, plus weekly facials (unless I’m traveling).

I would have a housekeeper and a chef to make me healthy, delicious meals, and I would pay them at least 100k a year. I would treat them with dignity and respect.

I would also happily pay my share of taxes on any income or interest earned.

I would have a small business (that someone else runs, because I’m always traveling), and whatever profits I made, I would gladly pay taxes on.

I would donate to shelters where people down on their luck can restore and rebuild their lives, and find a path.

Every organization or cause that I am passionate about would get anonymous donations. Enough to sustain them, and pay their dedicated staff a living wage.

I would have more than enough. Enough to share.

Because I know what it feels like to get an anonymous donation that’s just enough to survive.

Guess what I wouldn’t be doing?

Dictating how other people should live their lives.

Telling elected members of Congress to stall programs that would help Americans who had less than me.

Seeking revenge on my enemies, real or imagined.

Contributing large sums of money to politicians with the understanding that they would do my bidding.

I would simply enjoy my life, and do what I can to help others enjoy theirs!

I can’t imagine a better American Dream.

Countries consistently ranking high in quality of life indexes include Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Switzerland. Among them, Norway often tops the charts for several reasons:

Strong Economy: High GDP per capita and a balanced economic system.

Universal Healthcare: Comprehensive, high-quality healthcare accessible to all citizens.

Education: Free and well-funded education, with high literacy and graduation rates.

Social Safety Net: Generous welfare programs, including unemployment benefits, pensions, and parental leave.

Work-Life Balance: Shorter workweeks and a focus on leisure and family life.

Environmental Quality: Clean air, low pollution, and beautiful natural landscapes.

Political Stability: Transparent and democratic governance with low corruption. These nations prioritize well-being over relentless economic growth, focusing on sustainability, equity, and happiness.

But nooooooo we have this trash:

If you don’t like queer people, don’t spend time with them. (They probably don’t want to hang with your boring ass anyway)

If you don’t like trans people, same. (Although, you’re really missing out on some incredibly kind, brave, fun, and generous folks.)

But calling them insane, dangerous, and predatory is ridiculous. You may find an isolated instance where an “out” queer person is molesting anyone, but statistically it’s pastors you should be worried about.

If you don’t want your kids learning Critical Race Theory, don’t worry—it’s a university-level framework they’re unlikely to encounter before grad school. Stop confusing CRT with learning the actual history of the United States, which includes slavery, lynchings, systemic racism, and the destruction of Black communities.

Librarians and teachers could do their jobs if Moms for Liberty and their ilk would mind their own damn kids and communicate respectfully with teachers and librarians. Stop trying to impose your personal parenting beliefs on everyone else.

My parental rights are just as important as yours.

Teaching empathy and acknowledging the existence of queer people isn’t indoctrination.

No one is putting porn in front of kindergarteners, 4th graders, or any K-12 students. No one is requiring them to read The Bluest Eye, Flamer, or All Boys Aren’t Blue.

Our First Amendment rights include access to ideas and information. Queer kids exist—get over it. Black kids exist—get over it. They deserve to see their stories represented. That’s not replacing white, straight, cisgender characters, who still dominate 95% of books.

You can send your “pure, innocent” 16-year-old to public school and let them pick a book that interests them. Getting kids to read means letting them choose what speaks to them.

You can be the most devout morally superior person and have a queer kid.

Ask anyone in the LGBTQ community, a book didn’t make them anything but relieved that what they’re feeling isn’t as weird or unusual as they thought.

If that scares you, that’s your fear—not theirs. Keeping kids from learning isn’t parenting; it’s dictating.

If you want to keep your child in a bubble, fine—but that’s your kid, not mine.

BookLooks.org isn’t a credible source for determining the educational or social value of a book. It’s a tool Moms for Liberty use to stir outrage, cherry-picking excerpts to read at school board meetings.

“School choice” isn’t about better education. It’s about segregation and erasing queer people. If the far right can’t control or profit from public education, they’ll destroy it.

And who loses? Families who can’t afford private schools or homeschooling because they’re working two jobs to survive.

If you support bathroom bills to “protect” kids, remember: schools and districts were handling these needs just fine before states turned it into a manufactured crisis. Proposing genital checks is creepy and humiliating. Just let kids pee.

Teach your kids not to bully by not being a bully yourself.

If you don’t support the right to legally access safe abortion services, fine—don’t access them. Have that baby you don’t want and can’t afford.

If you’re worried about losing your Second Amendment rights, don’t be—you’re not. But it’s a dark time when people care more about where someone pees than about the epidemic of school shootings or how billionaires are robbing us blind.

Voicing thoughts on how to improve our communities to better serve everyone is patriotic.

We’ve all seen the growing violence and hateful rhetoric. How anyone with a conscience can continue to support the GOP is beyond me. This isn’t about politics—their current platform closely mirrors the Klan’s 1999 agenda. (Go ahead, Google it.)

No one—literally no one—is trying to erase white, Christian, America First, Yankee Doodle Dandies. You’re safe. Anyone telling you otherwise is manipulating you with fear.

No one is trying to erase Christian family values either. That’s made up, because fear is an easy way to control people.

It’s never been illegal for a man and a woman to marry. But it was illegal for Black people to marry white people. And for two men or two women to marry.

Some of us have this wild belief that Americans come in all shapes, sizes, colors, beliefs, preferences, and gender identities—and every single one of us deserves the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

We all deserve representation in books, schools, and leadership roles.

You don’t have to agree with or understand something to say, “That’s not for me,” and move on.

We all have a finite amount of time and energy. Why waste it trying to make others feel less than, have fewer rights than you, or feel ashamed for who they are?

It feels so good when someone says they feel safe, calm and relaxed around me. But I no longer have time, patience, or tolerance for anyone who intentionally tries to make another person’s life more difficult than it already is.
